West Watford station has recently emerged from years being buried in trees and other vegetation that had been allowed to grow unchecked since the closure of the line to Croxley Green. Work has now started in preparation for the diversion of the Metropolitan Line to Watford Junction via this route.
Recently ex works 37178 trundles through Heaton heading towards Tyne Yard with an engineers train returning from a Sunday possession further north. As the loco was allocated to Eastfield at the time I would guess that it had been borrowed on its way back north from Doncaster works. 1983.

Class 33 number 33047 passes Hackhurst Farm near Gomshall whilst working a ballast train from Woking - Tonbridge West Yard. At the time (1993) this was one of two regular eastbound civil engineers workings across the North Downs route. Both ran most days and were usually loaded in contrast to the corresponding westbound workings which were often just a light engine.
Long before the current crop of Anglian loco hauled workings 37167 departs from Somerleyton with a Lowestoft - Norwich service. The soft evening light highlights the slightly odd two tone grey livery that the loco was carrying at the time.
